12-Hour Salad

Ingredients
8 cups torn salad greens
1 1/2 cups chopped celery
2 medium green peppers, chopped
1 medium red onion, chopped
1 (10 ounce) package frozen peas, thawed
1 cup mayonnaise
1 cup sour cream
3 tablespoons sugar
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1/2 pound sliced bacon, cooked and crumbled
Directions
Place salad greens in a 3-qt. bowl or 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. dish. Top with layers of celery, green peppers, onion and peas; do not toss.
In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream and sugar; spread over vegetables. Sprinkle with cheese and bacon. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

That takes quite a bit of time, however I don't see anywhere why it is called 12 hour salads and what makes it so different or special? Why do we need celery and onion, I don't like it will the recipee work without it? Thanks ahead.

You don't need celery or onion, and because you don't like them, I recommend using onions but no celery and then cutting down on the onions. The recipee will work without it but the flavor will change... best of luck!

No. This salad is about the mixture of all the flavors and textures. If you don't like celery and onion, make another salad.
